COURSE OVERVIEW

The IBM® Tivoli® Storage Manager v6.3 Proof of Technology (PoT) provides a hands-on experience for those wishing to better understand enterprise-class data protection and how IBM software can be used to build the most efficient and effective solution possible. Participants will gain an appreciation for how IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager, can uniquely allow an organization to achieve the level of data protection they need in the most cost effective manner possible.

 

The ability to use advanced data management features like data reduction and deduplication are also discussed.

 

After completing this PoT the participant will understand:

  • How IBM Tivoli Storage Manager was designed from the ground up to be able to provide advanced data protection features (such as the most efficient backups combined with the most effective data recovery)
  • Tivoli Storage Manager core design features and how they provide a superior solution than traditional backup products
  • How Tivoli Storage Manager can provide a variable-cost hierarchy of storage on open systems and how this can benefit data protection services
  • How Tivoli Storage Manager family can protect data managed by a specific applications including relational databases, e-mail systems and virtual environments.

This Proof of Technology (PoT) is designed to demonstrate the capabilities of Tivoli Storage Manager and contains a live environment consisting of multiple Tivoli Storage Manager servers sharing a simulated tape library.  The participant will walk through a series of exercises to gain an understanding of Tivoli Storage Manager operations in a wide variety of data protection scenarios.
